Uploading an mp3 file:

The uploading mechanism is a little picky. It works best if your .mp3 file is encoded at 44.1 kHz. If you need to change the bitrate of your file, try downloading Audacity, an open-source audio editor.

ID3 Tags

If your .mp3 does not contain ID3 tags for artist or title, you will be prompted to enter them after Rifflet processes your song file. If you'd like to add ID3 tags to your song before you upload it, download ID3 Intelligent Tagger.

What is Creative Commons?

Creative Commons is way for artists to mark their work and also allow it to be reused, remixed and redistributed. When you add a Creative Commons license to a track you upload to Rifflet, you're giving community members the OK to edit, mashup or reuse your work in their songs. In turn, they give you the same right to their work.

You can retain some control over how your music is used. If you choose "Attribution, Non-Commercial," for instance, you are specifying that your work is not to be used for any commercial purposes (i.e. a 30-second TV spot), and that your name must be attached to any reuse of the work. If you want your creation to run completely free in the wild, with no restrictions at all, choose the "Public Domain Dedication" license.

I just made a new song out of rifflets. How do I give credit to the people who made the original pieces?

Kickass. That's just what this site is for--the exchange of musical ideas. To give credit to the folks who uploaded the original samples, select the name of the track(s) in the box marked "This audio is based on the following Rifflet(s)" in the Submit Audio page. If you used more than one rifflet, control-click on all the names that apply. When your new song goes up on the site, the original work will be credited, along with a link to the original material. Pretty cool, huh?

I just saved a rifflet to my favorites. Where did it go?

If you're logged in to your account, you'll see a menu bar at the top of the screen. One of the options will be 'My Favorites'. Click on it to see a page of your favorite rifflets with links to the original files.

Can I delete my account and uploaded music?

Sure. Login and click on 'My Account' in the top menu bar. Click on the 'Edit' tab. At the bottom of the page, you'll see a 'Delete' button. When you click that, you'll have the option to either delete your account and your uploaded music, or simply delete your account and leave the music visible to other users.
